An Honest Honey App Review: Is It Worth Your Time?

I’m sure you’ve already heard of Honey. An app that finds you legit discounts and helps you save cash every time you shop, all for free.

So, there must be a catch, right? What if I told you there isn’t? I’ve been using Honey myself for the longest time so I decided to write an honest Honey app review.

Learn what it is, how to use it, how it works,

and how you can save a lot of money on your online shopping sprees.

Honey App Review

What Is Honey App?

Even though it’s called an app, Honey is, in fact, an extension for your browser.

Once you have installed it, the extension will help you save money every time you shop.

It manages to do that by looking for coupons or discount codes online.

Allow me to make this a little simpler for you.

Do you know that step you reach when you shop online?

Most of the time it’s right next to the checkout box or the window where you have to put in your credit card details.

It’s a small field that says ‘Do you have a discount code?”

Sometimes you already have one. When I don’t have a discount code, I usually go online and try to find one on Google. If I’m lucky, I find a code for free shipping or a few dollars off.

But the thing is that, more often than not, I just waste a lot of time not finding anything.

This is where Honey comes it. So, what is Honey app?

When I installed the Honey chrome extension, it just did all that work for me. All I had to do was wait a little and Honey searched the internet and found viable discount codes for me, to help me save money on my shopping.

So, if you’re wondering what is Honey app, now you know!

As an extension, Honey is compatible with no less than 30,000 shopping platforms. This means that Honey will look for discount codes for you on all of them to help you save money.

Not only that, but Honey boasts a whopping 40,000 stores where you can shop online. I have my own favorites and I’m sure you have yours.

Some examples include AmazonSephoraUltaPizza HutNikeTargetAdidas, and many more.

One of the things that attracted me to the Honey extension is that it’s also available for smartphones. This means that you can download it from the App store.

However, keep in mind that it’s available at all times for iOS but you will need to pre-order it if you want to use it on Android.

How Does Honey Works?

Honey works under the motto that finding the best deals on the internet should be fast and easy. Therefore, the app offers a number of tools that you can choose from. Since this is a Honey app review, let’s break them down.

Honey Gold

This is the one I use and love the most. It’s also the most famous one since it seems that everyone wants it as well. Honey Gold works like a loyalty program.

The only way to access it is if you create an account with Honey and then activate Honey Gold. After that, each time you shop from one of the stores they support, you will receive 20% back. But not in money.

Once you have collected 1,000 units, you will receive a gift card that is valued at $10 and which you can use on Amazon.

Droplist

To tell you the truth, Droplist is the feature of Honey that I am currently using.

Simply because I don’t have to do anything. Droplist works for me in the background.

What I do is add things I want to buy to my Droplist and the app will monitor them. If the price drops, Honey sends me an email and I can buy them at a discount price. Which is what I normally do.

This is a perfect way to make sure you don’t overspend. However, you will have to wait until you can buy your favorite items.

Savings Finder

This is, of course, the main tool that Honey has to offer. It’s super easy to use and you don’t have to do much. In fact, all you need to do is install the Honey extension on your browser and that’s it!

Honey starts looking for discounts and coupons that you will then use during checkout when you shop.

It’s good to know that it works for everything, from clothes to food and even travel deals.

How to Use Honey - A Simple App to Save Money

I’ve been using this app for a long time and I can tell you that it’s super simple. Here are the steps you need to know.

1. Access your favorite website and shop like you do every time

2. When you’re done, go to your shopping cart or your checkout page. Make sure not to complete the process.

3. While that page is still open, click on the Honey icon. It should appear in your browser as an icon on the right side of the screen after you have installed it. You will find it at the top of the page, next to all your other browser extensions.

When you open it, you will notice a large, orange button that says ‘Apply Coupons.’ Click on it and wait until Honey finds you a coupon or a discount code.

Sometimes, when I use Honey after I have clicked on this button, the extension tells me that it’s unlikely to find any discount codes for me for that particular item I’m trying to buy.

1. If this happens to you as well, don’t worry. Click the button that says ‘Try Anyway.” This will force the app to look for discount codes for you

2. It usually takes a few minutes for Honey to find great discounts. When it has, you will see the amount of money that you can save! Tap “Continue to Checkout’ and proceed with your shopping as you normally do.

The Honey app is supported by most commercial web browsers. This means that you can download it safely if you are using Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, or Safari.

Honey App Review - Is it Safe?

Let’s talk about one of the most common things I get asked.

When people hear that I use Honey all the time, this is the first thing they ask. Is it safe to use?

In fact, this is one of the main reasons why I decided to do a Honey app review

Honey is an entirely safe app. All you need to know is that, like most apps of their kind, it will collect data about your habits of shopping.

This data will then be sent back to Honey. However, Honey has stated that they do not use it for bad practices, such as selling it to third parties.

There is a reason why Honey needs to track exactly what you browse online. And that is so the app can only show up on specific pages or websites.

At the same time, the app needs to collect your data so that it can be sent back to servers belonging to Honey. In this way, they can verify your purchases and provide you with cashback if you choose the Honey Gold membership program that I mentioned above.

If you are in any way concerned about these things and, at the same time, want to know more about how to use Honey, I recommend that you read their privacy policy.

Pros and Cons of the Honey Extension App

Of course, there would be no Honey app review if I didn’t make a list of pros and cons to judge if this extension is, indeed, worth it.

So, here it is, for your benefit.

Pros

  • It’s entirely free
  • It’s extremely easy to use, being a user-friendly app
  • It works automatically, meaning you don’t have to do anything by hand.
  • The installation process is very easy
  • It allows you to uninstall the app and delete it any time you want
  • You can read all about their privacy settings
  • They have a cashback program
  • You can save lots of money when shopping without doing anything
  • Honey is very transparent about its data collection
  • Works very fast in finding you deals all over the internet

Cons

  • The cashback they give is not actual money but gift cards you can only spend on Amazon.

Honey App Frequently Asked Questions

I know you still have some questions. How does Honey works, can you use it safely, and more. So, here is a FAQ section that has all the answers.

1. Can you use Honey safely?

The app has more than 17 million users, myself included. It also has a wonderful rating on the app store as well as on sites such as Trustpilot. This should tell you that people love it and trust using the Honey extension.

2. Is there any catch if you use Honey?

Lots of people ask me this question as well.

What’s the catch when you use Honey?

Or there must be a catch because there is no way that a website could just find discounts for you for free.
But I’ve used it and I can tell you that there is absolutely no catch.

The app only finds discounts for you and that’s it. You don’t have to pay for anything, there are no extra or hidden fees, and you don’t have to add a credit card.
Honey also doesn’t sell your data to third parties and doesn’t collect other types of information.

3. How does Honey make money?

So, if there’s no catch, how does the app profit from all this?

In other words, how does Honey make money?

The simple answer is that they use affiliates. Meaning that the platforms they support and the shops they search across to find deals for you are their partners.
Therefore, each time you click on a link or you use one of the coupons or discount codes that Honey has located for you, they make a commission.

Therefore, as you can see, it’s in Honey’s interest to find you a discount. Because in this way, you click on it, you make a purchase, and they make the commission.

4. Are there other apps like Honey out there?

Yes, there are.

We call them Honey’s competitors and they include extensions such as WikiBuy, The Camelizer, RetailMeNot, and Dealspotr.

However, you should know that not all of them are as efficient as Honey.

For example, with RetailMeNot you still have to look for all your discount codes manually, which might take a really long time.

The Camelizer is also a browser extension, just like Honey. However, since it’s the front end of CamelCamelCamel, it is more focused on finding deals for Amazon than other websites.

5. Is Honey a great app or extension?

Evidently, that depends on what type of shopping you have in mind or what your goal is. The best thing to do is to look at the numbers.

Honey is an app that supports more than 30,000 stores and millions of users who love it.

Not only that, but according to their own data, they can offer you upto 17.9% discount on average. Or yearly savings that amount to $126. I would say that’s pretty good for a shopping extension!

Honey App Review - Is Honey Worth It?

So, here is the final and most important question of the Honey app review.

Is it worth installing in your browser and using when you shop? In my opinion, as a person who has and uses Honey, I say you need to use it every single day.

It’s entirely free and a fantastic tool that will help you save money without doing a single thing.

Automatically, the app will find you discounts that you didn’t even know existed.

All in a safe and secure way because Honey is dedicated to transparency and privacy.

Are you using Honey App? What is your view about the app? How much you have saved?
